Super Stunner 6 & Super Scope F.A.Q.
What exactly is the Super Scope (SS)?
Nintendo made a light gun for the Super Nintendo. Unlike the zapper it was a bigger bazooka of a light gun. It was released early in the SNES life-cycle, fairly advance for its time, & had a large release.
Sadly, it was not very successful/popular so quietly faded away. It was expensive, not practical, & game developers soon stop supporting it.

What exactly is the Super Stunner 6 (SS6)?
Its a Sega Saturn light gun modified to replace the Super Scope for the SNES.
Note, we at Vintex 64 coined the term "Super Stunner 6". Many people just call it the Stunner to Snes conversion.

Why make something like this?
The Super Nintendo does have a decent library of Light Gun games. And some of them are pretty good! The Stunner considered by many to be one best light guns every made! Take a good light-gun + take decent light gun games = a good combination.
The Stunner is an arcade quality Sega Saturn fifth generation light gun put on a fourth generation Super Nintendo. To quote Miles Quaritch from Avatar:
"A recon marine in an Avatar body... that's a potent mix! Gives me the goosebumps!"

Will it work with Super Scope games on my Everdrive or Flash-carts?
Yes, you can load your backup/rom from flash-cart and shoot away.

Will your Super Stunner 6 (SS6) work on my SNES clone system?
Depends, but likely. The data input are more direct with our stunner mod than the IR/wireless for the original scope. There are reports that Retron 5 work with Super Stunner 6, but not the original Super Scope.

Where can I find an independent review to your Super Stunner 6?
See the "Super Stunner 6" review by boojakascha: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0jmo5RqsR0&t=69s
He is very knowledgeable in all things light gun. He noted our decent build quality, functionality, & how we made it widely available at good price.

What are the available or best SS6 games?
In our opinion the best Super Scope game is Metal Combat (the squeal to Battle Clash)
Some other games that worth some time are: Battle Clash, X-Zone, Terminator 2: The Arcade Game, Bazooka Blitzkrieg, & even the original Super Scope 6 cart. Super Scope 6 has a few games that are short, but decent. Can download this text file for full list of games.
Can see video for some game-play: www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5S4G4DbtDo

How does this Stunner mod work in simple language?
It uses the optical light sensors from the Stunner. As for the data button inputs (fire, pauses, courser, etc.) they are added to the Stunner. All this is wired directly to a control chip that goes directly into the SNES. The SNES thinks a Super Scope is hocked-up & firing.

Is there any lag/delay when using “Super Stunner 6” compared to “Super Scope”?
No, the response is exact same, but likely better than original Super Scope (as no wireless IR interface). We use donor Super Scope receivers which re-uses the same controller plug & microchip that controls the trigger/button sequence. We experimented with other microchips chips, but ironically the original Super Scope microchip the one that works the best and Nintendo has strict quality requirements on its chip suppliers.

This Light Gun a bit expensive? Why?
Official Stunners and Super Scope receivers not cheap nor easy to come by. Can see eBay prices for yourself. The PCB one of our more expensive to manufacture. Due to its thickness, shape, & simulated gold plating. We try not to charge much for labor & we do have as PCB assembly option if want make it yourself.

Do you test each Stunner before ship?
Every "Super Stunner 6" is carefully tested, we play/beat a full game of Battle Clash; to really make sure it works to top notch.
What happens if my Super Stunner 6 stops working in year or so?
If something happened, we will repair it for free or send a working replacement. We just ask you send/ship the old one back.
If your bit good with hands and soldering iron maybe take a peak inside, & see if any loose wires or shorted wire - you can simply fix it.
When look inside you'll see everything is very well identified on the PCB. Make is super easy to understand & trouble shoot.
You can also move or replace the trigger micro-switch to suit your preference, but need to De-solder current location.

I have a dead spot to the left side of my TV; is your Super Stunner 6 defective?
I have a dead spot with my Super Scope will I have the same dead spot with your Super Stunner 6?
Some TVs’ do have dead spots; it is the way some TVs’ are made. The most common issue few inches to left or right side of TV trim. This is due to the TV not the Super Scope or Super Stunner 6. We sadly have no solution to this. If happens on your original scope/light gun will happen with our Stunner. We recommend try different Tube TV’s and when find a good one hang onto it.
Many light gun retro games have a specific TV they keep just for light guns.

Any advice on getting a good retro gaming CRT TV for light gun?
Remember, never take apart or put your hand insides an older CRT TV they have high voltage booting capacitors which are not safe to touch or work around!
Can ask around or look at local e-waste center if they'll let you re-buy or try/test some CRT TVs.
Another trick is find out when your local town/city big disposal week is, then drive around during big disposal day for curb side pick-up. During these events many free TV's are set for disposal.
Suggest try a few TV's and keep two (main and spare). We find flat glass and more luxury model TV (which are normally better build) work well for light guns and nice to keep.
We have two flat glass CRT TV's at Vintex 64. A big one for big game fun or heavy testing and a small one for quick tests which surprising works very well for difficult games too.

Do I have to use the Stunner aim on top barrel or can I use this free hand?
You can use it free hand, just need give some time for your hand eye coordination. We are able to beat Battle clash & Bazooka Blitzkrieg free hand.
Just take little time get used to. Most players play free hand.

What proper distance to be from my TV?
Overall, you need be little closer with Super Stunner 6 than the super scope. The way the stunner was designed. You may need experiment with distance from your TV find the sweat spot.

What the accuracy/response of Super Stunner 6 compared to the Super Scope?
What is it like transition like from official Super Scope to your Super Stunner 6?
The accuracy/response is much better. The games are less difficult. Much difficulty in playing with original Super Scope is awkwardness, lack response & speed. All this is fixed when using the Super Stunner 6. We personal beaten Super Scope 6: Lazerblazer-Engage & Lazerblazer-Confront , Battle Clash, X-Zone, & Bazooka Blitzkrieg on the hardest difficulty setting. This be impossible for us on the original super scope. Note we did do this on a big TV too.
The original scope has an eye peace, while the Stunner aimed by your hand/eye coordination. Simply put, give the Stunner little bit of time; most players adapted well after few sittings. Many obviously prefer the Stunner for easy of use, feel, simplicity, & responsiveness.
The Vintex 64 PCB in the Super Stunner 6 was designed for very high circuit contact. So the buttons & fire response is very quick. Lets not forget the arcade quality microscopes which are much Superior to the Stunner OEM button trigger.

Where did this idea/mod come from?
Credit belong to the one known as "micro". The original inventor of this conversion. Who wanted to play Metal Combat without the scope. He also released the design publicly. Thanks you!
See his original video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ct1kHhWdUfY
Another individual known as "Boojakascha". Very knowledgeable light gun retro gaming did an excellent review/validation of the "micro" design.
See his video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xdqbWUp5_Y
We refined the concept, made some tweak/improvements & designed a high end PCB for it; a PCB's more advance than those used in high end power supplies. Our PCB factory had a few words for us when they first saw this design.

What the story behind all the different Colours for the Stunner? What the top pick for Collectors?
Sega originally released the all-black model in Japan. With plans to release it in North American. Due to how it could be mistaken for a real weapon, the all-orange model was released in North America. Europe got the blue model for the same reason. The original box art for Virtual Cop had all black guns. The Virtual Cop 2 box art had orange guns.
Later the stunner was re-released in japan with the modified black model with the nice logo and yellow button/trigger. The black with yellow start/trigger most popular with collectors. Our model also has a matching yellow pause button to maintain that look.
Some purchase an Orange stunner for play use as cheaper & keep Black/Yellow stunner for collecting.

Do you sell the blue version of the Stunners? What color stock is limited?
The blue stunner not easy to come by and can be very expensive; so we not bothered with it. We do have one we reviewed.
All other main colors we plan keep in stock. So always be available.

How much stock do you have? Will you stop selling these?
We aim to keep making these to meet demand. Currently have 10 in stock of each colour type, but only pre-built a set amount. We can make 1 or 100 of these. Only issue is cost of donor Stunners & Scope Receivers. If these donor parts go up in prices sadly our prices have to go up as well.

If I send you my specific Stunner can you modify it? When the next Super Stunner 6 build cycle?
Normally not. However, if make request close to Stunner build cycle, we will do so. If send us a Donor Stunner, we will normally ship out an already modified stunner of same color. Stunner build cycles are normally once a year unless an influx of high demand or a big deal on donor parts comes available.

Can I ship you a donor Stunner to save money on one of yours?
For sure. If provide a donor stunner, or two, we will give you a substantial discount. We'll likely ship/sell you one of our pre-build stunners and modify your donor stunner(s) during next Stunner build cycle. Stunner does not have to be tested nor working.

Notice you include optional SNES light Gun Games?
Do you have Metal Combat or Bazooka Blitzkrieg?
Do you plane make any repo Super Scope games?
True, we'll continue to do so. As we are making reproduction SNES games, but of lower capacity games. As such we have plenty of Battle Clash & Super Scope 6 games that plan give with any Super Stunner 6 purchase. We just ask if you don't plan to use it please leave it for other customers.
We'll also be listing other Super Scope SNES games in our store to complement the Super Stunner 6. Can inquire with us if like purchase one sooner.
Also, we can make "MACS - Multi-purpose Arcade Combat Simulator" repo cart.

What is the MACS - Multi-purpose Arcade Combat Simulator?
Does your Super Stunner 6 work with MACS game?
The US Army had a simulated assault rife & custom game made just for marksmanship training. This became known as the SNES MACS system. Army bases around the US has this system setup for training which used a regular SNES.
Sadly, it was not well received by Army personal and become unwanted & very rare item and seek out by collectors.
We made a mod with our Super Stunner 6 to have MACS support. Sadly, it very hard to use and not overly enjoyable. The MACS game need really high accuracy, tolerance and very good TV. We decided not to sell the MACS feature on the website, yet we can add button to Stunner for MACS support upon request. Just release you may not get much gaming entertainment out of it.

Can you ship/sell the PCB with parts soldered on? So I can mod my Stunner myself?
For sure, we have a PCB assembly option available for you. You just need to decide your button locations, install them, and solder on the wires for your buttons. The PCB has clear identification markers for your button wires. You can also decide if install micro switch for trigger or use original stunner.
We suggest have two Stunner if something goes wrong, test your stunners beforehand, & remember to put the lenses back at end of barrow.
Note, you need to remove some plastic near the trigger to fit the PCB lower. Suggest test fit the assembled PCB before do the button mod.
You may ask questions to us, but we request you have some experience with this type of stuff, as not be best beginner project. Oh ya, the PCB fits in the stunner bit tight. So can drill holes bigger on PCB if want looser fit.

Currently not plans to do so. This was a Vintex 64 team member request that turned into a full blow product line.

Is there any concern in shipping/owning something like this?
This is a video game controller or video game accessory. So perfectly fine to own/ship. They are being shipped/sold on eBay all the time.
Shipping, customs may inspect it due to its shape. Or if have the word gun in the shipping paperwork. Most people note in shipping paperwork “Toy Gun” or “Video Game Controller Accessory” or "Video Game Input Device".
We also recommend shipping by tracked package. If get stuck at the boarder somewhere you/we can always call to provide them more info.
Other than that common sense prevails. Leave this thing at home; don't put it in your jacket pocket in the airport.

Can you modify this different brand Sega Saturn light gun to work on SNES?
Normally not, as our PCB is designed specifically for OEM Stunners. Different light gun brands move around the mechanical sizes within.

I am a Sega guy with a lot of Stunners. You wanted to buy some? Some are broken!
For sure! We will be interested in them. Working or not or in any condition.
For sure! We will be interested in them. Working or not or in any condition.
I am a big Sega fan, have you thought about reproductions of the full Stunners? Stunner prices been going up lately!
We don't plan too. We don't see high demand and it would be an expensive undertaking. Stunner a complicated injection molded part.
Yet, Stunner prices been really going up, was $50 when we started this many years go, now pushing $100+ for Orange type.
I really want a light gun for X system can you mod the Stunner for it? Can you make a Universal Light Gun?
We don't plan to make a universal light gun. Other retro gaming groups are working on this and they maybe ready/done. See ""Boojakascha" YouTube channel for details. We just plan to make this an affordable option for SNES fans, collectors, and those who miss the SNES light gun games.
