Super Stunner 6 & Super Scope 6 F.A.Q.
What exactly is the Super Scope 6 (SS6)?
Nintendo made a light gun for the Super Nintendo. Unlike the zapper it was a bigger bazooka of a light gun. It was released early in the SNES day, fairly advance for its time, & had a large release.
Sadly, it was not very successful/popular so quietly faded away. Was expensive, not practical, & game developers stopped developing games for it.

What exactly is the Super Stunner 6 (SS6)?
Its a Sega Saturn light gun modified to replace the Super Scope 6 for the SNES.
Note, we at Vintex 64 coined the term Super Stunner 6. Some people just call it the Stunner to Snes conversion.

Then why make something like this?
The Super Nintendo does have a decent library of Light Gun games. And some of them like Metal Combat & Tin Star are pretty good!
We agree, the Super Scope 6 never been a very practical device, but many out there have and still enjoy the few light gun games for SNES.

Will it work with SS6 games on my Ever-drive or Flash-carts?
Yes, can load your backup/rom from flash-cart and shoot away.

Will your Super Stunner 6 (SS6) work on my SNES clone system?
Depends, but likely. The data input are more direct with our stunner mod than the IR/wireless for the scope. There are reports that Retron 5 work with Super Stunner 6, but not the Super Scope 6.

What are the available or best SS6 games?
In our opinion the best SS6 game is Metal Combat (the squeal to Battle Clash) & Tin Star.
Some other games that worth some time are: Battle Clash, X-Zone, Terminator 2: The Arcade Game, Bazooka Blitzkrieg, & even the original Super Scope 6 cart. Has a few games that are short, but decent. Can download this text file for full list of games.
Can see video for some game-play: www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5S4G4DbtDo

How does this Stunner mod work in simple language?
It uses the optical light sensors from the Stunner. As for the data button inputs (fire, pauses, courser, etc.) they are added to the Stunner. All this is wired directly to a control chip that goes directly into the SNES. The SNES thinks a Super Scope 6 is hocked-up & firing.

Is there any lag/delay when using “Super Stunner 6” compared to “Super Scope 6”?
No, the response is exact same, but likely better than original Super Scope 6 (as no wireless IR interface). We use donor Super Scope 6 receivers which re-uses the same controller plug & microchip that controls the trigger/button sequence. We experimented with other microchips chips, but ironically the original Scope microchip the one that works the best.

This Light Gun a bit expensive? Why?
Official Stunners and Super Scope 6 receivers not cheap nor easy to come by. Can see eBay prices for yourself. The PCB one of our more expensive to manufacture. Due to its thickness, shape, & simulated gold plating. We try not charge much for labour & we do have as PCB assembly option.

Do you test each Stunner before ship?
Every Super Stunner 6 is carefully tested, we play/beat a full game of Battle Clash; to really make sure it works to top notch.
What happens if my Super Stunner 6 stops working in year or so?
Yet, if something happened, we will repair it for free or send a working replacement. We just ask you send/ship the old one back.
If your bit good with hands and soldering iron maybe take a peak inside, if noticed the odd loose wire you can simply fix it.
When look inside you'll see everything is very well identified on the PCB.

I have a dead spot to the left side of my TV; is your Super Stunner 6 defective?
I have a dead spot with my Super Scope 6 will I have the same dead spot with your Super Stunner 6?
Some TVs’ do have dead spots; it is the way some TVs’ are made. The most common issue few inches to left or right side of TV trim. This is due to the TV not the Super Scope 6 or Super Stunner 6. We sadly have no solution to this. If happens on your original scope/light gun will happen with our Stunner. We recommend try different Tube TV’s and when find a good one hang onto it.
Many light gun retro games have a specific TV they keep just for light guns.

Do I have to use the Stunner aim on top or can I use this free hand?
You can use it free hand, just need adjust your hand eye coordination. We are able to beat Battleclash free hand. Just take little time get used to.

What proper distance to be from my TV?
Overall, you need be little closer with Super Stunner 6 than the scope. The way the stunner was designed.
You may need experiment with distance from your TV find the sweat spot.

What the accuracy/response of Super Stunner 6 compared to the Super Scope 6?
What is it like transition like from official Super Scope 6 to your Super Stunner 6?
The accuracy/response is the same, but likely better. The game difficulty be about the same or bit easier. Only the aiming/holding method is substantially different. So, you will be as good as your original skills.
The original scope has an eye peace, while the Stunner aimed by your hand/eye coordination. Simply put, give the Stunner little bit of time; most players adapted well after few sittings. Many obviously prefer the Stunner for easy of use, feel, simplicity, & responsiveness. The scope misses shots or has delays in shots. Out PCB was designed for very high circuit contact. So the buttons & fire response is very quick. Lets not forget the arcade quality cherry microscopes which are much Superior to the Stunner OEM button trigger. We have a passionate Light Gun fan on the Vintex 64 team, & we pushed ourselves to meets his standards.
With that said some SNES light gun games are hard. Note can use some Game Genie codes to help out.
Overall, many feel the Super Stunner 6 delivers a much better button response rate, much better feel/hold, & much richer light gun experience over the scope.

Where did this idea/mod come from?
Credit belong to the one known as "micro". The original inventor of this conversion. Who wanted to play Metal Combat without the scope. He also released the design publicly. Thanks you!
See his original video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ct1kHhWdUfY
Another individual known as "Boojakascha". Very knowledgeable light gun retro gaming did an excellent review/validation of the "micro" design.
See his video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xdqbWUp5_Y
We refined the concept, made some tweak/improvements & designed a high end PCB for it; a PCB's more advance than those used in high end power supplies. Our PCB factory had a few words for us when they first saw this design.

What the story behind all the different Colours for the Stunner? What the top pick for Collectors?
Sega originally released the all-black model in Japan. With plans to release it in North American. Due to how it could be mistaken for a real weapon, the all-orange model was released in North America. Europe got the blue model for the same reason. The original box art for Virtual Cop had all black guns. The Virtual Cop 2 box art had orange guns.
Later the stunner was re-released in japan with the modified black model with the nice logo and yellow button/trigger.
The black with yellow start/trigger most popular with collectors. Our model also has a matching yellow pause button to maintain that look.
Some purchase an Orange stunner for play use as cheaper & keep Black/Yellow stunner for show their room.

Do you sell the blue version of the Stunners? What colour stock is limited?
The blue stunner not easy to come by and can be very expensive; so we not bothered with it. We do have one as studied the original PCB.
All other main colours we plan keep in stock. So always be available. Just if some become harder to get will affect prices.

How much stock do you have? Will you stop selling these?
We aim to keep making these to meet demand. Currently have 10 in stock of each colour type, but only pre-built a set amount. We can make 1 or 100 of these. Only issue is cost of donor Stunners & Scope Receivers. If these donor parts go up in prices sadly our prices have to go up as well.

If I send you my specific Stunner can you modify it? When the next Super Stunner 6 build cycle?
Normally not. However, if make request close to Stunner build cycle, we will do so. If send us a Donor Stunner, we will normally ship out an already modified stunner of same color. Stunner build cycles are normally twice a year unless an influx of high demand or a big deal on donor parts comes available.

Can I ship you a donor Stunner to save money on one of yours?
For sure. If provide a donor stunner, or two, we will give you a substantial discount. We'll likely ship/sell you one of our pre-build stunners and modify your donor stunner(s) during next Stunner build cycle. Stunner does not have to be tested nor working.

Notice you include optional SNES light Gun Games?
Do you have Metal Combat or Bazooka Blitzkrieg?
Do you plane make any repo SS6 games?
As we purchased Super Scope 6 receiver donors, we got into packaged deals that included SNES Scope games. So, we decided just to pass them on to you. Depending on stock. You can inquire what else we have in stock to include as a free game.
SS6 games are pretty dame cheap on eBay. You can get both Metal Combat (likely the best game) or Bazooka Blitzkrieg (the rarest SS6 game) for about $30. That really good for the best/rarest game.
Given above we don't see value in repo SS6. Yet, if demand high and Super Stunner 6 get popular we'll look at making optional free SS6 repo game.

Can you ship/sell the PCB with parts soldered on? So I can mod my Stunner myself?
For sure, we have a PCB assembly option available for you. You just need to decide your button locations, install them, and solder on the wires for your buttons. The PCB has clear identification markers for your button wires. You also decide if install micro switch for trigger or use original stunner.
We suggest have two Stunner if something goes wrong, test your stunners beforehand, & remember to put the lenses back at end of barrow.
Note, you need to remove some plastic near the trigger to fit the PCB lower. Suggest test fit the assembled PCB before do the button mod.
You also may ask us a few questions regarding your mod. We just ask you have some experience with this type of stuff, as this maybe not be best beginner project. Oh ya, the PCB fits in the stunner bit tight. So can drill holes bigger on PCB if want looser fit or know this is normal to reduce PCB movement in the stunner.

Currently not plans to do so. This was a Vintex 64 team member request that turned into a full blow product line.

Is there any concern in shipping/owning something like this?
This is a video game controller or video game accessory. So perfectly fine to own/ship. They are being shipped/sold on eBay all the time.
Regarding shipping, customs may inspect it due to its shape. Or if have the word gun in the shipping paperwork. Most people note in shipping paperwork “Toy Gun” or “Video Game Controller Accessory” or "Video Game Input Device".
We also recommend shipping by tracked package. If get stuck at the boarder somewhere you/we can always call to provide them more info.
Other than that common sense prevails. Leave this thing at home; don't put it in your jacket pocket in the airport.

Can you modify this different brand Sega Saturn light gun to work on SNES?
Normally not, as our PCB is designed specifically for OEM Stunners. Different light gun brands lightly move around the mechanical sizes within.

I am a Sega guy with a lot of Stunners. You wanted to buy some? Some are broken!
For sure! We will be interested in them. Working or not or in any condition.

I am a big Sega fan, have you thought about reproductions of the full Stunners? Stunner prices been going up lately!
I really want a light fun for X system can you mod the Stunner for it?
We have thought about it. We have/know a good molding shop so could replicate the full ABS plastic shell. The optical PCB not be hard to replicate & we see a lot of areas of improvement. We'll see what demand is for this (regular Stunner & Super Stunner 6) and decide if move forward. Like any molding project need volume (high numbers) to be there. Yes, Stunner prices been really going up, was $50 when we started this years go, no pushing $90 each. And yes if we go ahead with this project we'll see about a "universal light gun design" so can work on any system.
One light gun to rule them all.
