Classic Doom/Quake style limited game
This game is a Homebrew Port of the open source Yet3D Pro for play on the N64. Yet3D Pro is a game engine designed to be free, open source, and cross many gaming consoles. A free tool for people to develop content.
This version of Yet3D Pro was tweaked to run on the N64 for the “NeoFlash Code Completion 2012”. NeoFlash was a group behind the Myth Cart an older N64 flash cart it was quite advance for its time.
As for the game itself, it’s a first person shooter with graphics, controls, and play style very similar to classic Doom, Hexan, and Quake 2. Veterans of above games feel right at home. The game has 33 large levels with reasonable texture and dynamic lighting. Also, player pick-ups such as health and ammo. Creatures can be found in level which attack when shot at. Enemies and lava do damage.
For more details of gaming content see author quote below:
“So is it a "full" game? Pretty much - you can explore levels to find two different items to collect (health and ammo), and you can fight with the creatures on the level (or avoid them). You'll have to search for the end of level teleporter - find the floating blue crystal to end the level and go to the next. This is more meant as a base from which to build a game. As such, I don't expect folks to rate it as high as an actual game. This is just another in my usual releases meant to help the homebrew scene by providing tools and code anyone can use for their own stuff.”
“So what is missing? The big thing missing is sound. I'm working on the sound, but am not sure it'll be ready by the deadline, hence this release. Also, the game AI is pretty stupid at the moment - the creatures just run around until you shoot them, then they attack. There are only two items you can pick up, and one weapon.”
As the above indicates the game is bit limited. No music, sound, nor save features, the enemies not very advance and move through walls.
For gamers or fans of classic Doom, Hexan, or Quake 2 this maybe neat Homebrew to explore. As this is the only FPS Homebrew ever made on the N64. And is an impressive window to what could have been if given a more detail fan base.
