Mario Land VB, also known as VB Mario Land, or Mario Adventure was to be a successor to Super Mario Land 2 from the Gameboy. It was designed from the ground up to take advantage & show-off the Virtual Boy capabilities. It was also intended to be a Virtual Boy launch title.
First shown as an auto-running tech demo at Winter Consumer Electronics Show (WCES) in 1995 at Las Vegas, NV. It was the first glimpse of this particular version/build of Mario game. The images in this listing are screen shots from that show.
You can see leaked video of this video here!
At that time it was simply a preliminary tech demo to show-off the effects of the Virtual Boy. The game was a regular Mario action, platformer, adventure, with 3D effects in background & some overhead 3D views a new twist to existing Mario gaming methiod.
Not long after the WCES show it was decided to limit the Mario presence on the Virtual Boy in preparation for the big N64 release. So, Mario Clash, which was originally a mini game for Mario Land VB become its own title as the only major Mario game. Other elements of Mario Land VB got re-used into the well know Virtual Boy Wario Land.
This version of game/rom is the latest/build, but with some updates to the version of the WCES demo. It has few more levels, mini-games, music, and effects. This was last build before being dissolved into Mario Clash & VB Wario Land. It proves that for a time the old plan continued to make a major Mario game for Virtual Boy.
This lost game has been a fascination by many fans over the years. And window into what could have been! This was trully on of greatest sense of lost media, mystery, & intrigue for the Virtual Boy legacy/history.
