Embark on a quest to save kingdom of Jewelry Land from Bowser and his army. Work way through 12 levels, collect simply power-ups, coins, & boss fights. This is a rail shooter where you ride Yoshi and shoot not stump your enemies.
This title like later Metal Combat was Nintendo’s attempt to get popularity for the Super Scope. With Super Scope dropping in popularity, Nintendo requested R&D1 to create a Mario game. To help, this game took advantage of the Mode 7 graphics mode which created an impression of 3D computer graphics to make gameplay more realistic.
Title is know for decent graphics, sound, & sprites.
Game has no save feature; like the original. Yet, game not overly long.
Has 2-player support by using controller & 2nd player can control Yoshi, but gameplay bit limited/simple.
Reviews at the time where positive. They highlighted the visuals, gameplay, & quality.
yet, some reviewers noted the short gameplay, low difficulty, and how title was likely targeted for younger players. Yet, you do get a code later for a hard mode for little more reply value. At end of the day it isn’t a bad game, but not for everyone.
Sadly, the title was not a commercial success, as Mortal Kombat released at same time that had a lot hype over the removal of blood & gore. This title few into the sidelines.
In modern time some reviewers noted how this title deserved more recognition, is quite special to the Mario franchise, was ahead of its time, & was a shame was never re-released.
Overall, a different little light-game. Many find it a nice little play for something different. Some may get into the vision and style while other may pass for the better title like Battle Clash or Metal Combat.
Still an important title to make available in the limited Super Scope line-up at and affordable price.
